“and the wave does not know, or may be it thinks it knows, that it is nothing without the ocean, just as droplets form a rivulet, a stream, then a mighty river, by joining together; and when they or it plurally or singularly meet the ocean and go with the flow of the river’s delta, regardless of the tanned woman on the beach seeking the night stars, THIS!! Becomes the urgency of life: to recognize the wave before it becomes the wave, to recognize each droplet from the sky as little more than the powerful ocean’s moonlit troughs and sloughs, the imperfect wave that drags us beneath such a beguiling surface!” ( from “House Stories,” DLS)
Clinically speaking, using poetry, metaphor, soul finding and dismemberment / re-memberment of the psyche have been healing modalities for centuries. It is not “new age” nor is it the latest “trend” in wellness. Any psychotherapy is at root the process of story telling, and in doing so, finding the habit energies we inherited from our forebears, teachers, guardians, or those we accumulated during our own life. We eliminate; we embrace. We change. The challenge is to grow! Earnie Larson said decades ago that the first stage in recovery (from addiction) was stopping the addictive behavior. And that the second stage was changing everything else in one’s life. If you are needing assistance in that process of change, don’t know where to start, or your present modality of “working through” an issue no longer works, give me a call or email. Together, we can find a creative way to nurture progress.
My site for clinical work is https://heal.me/danielsmith and initial consultations are always free.
